Computational Methods in Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics aims to understanding biological mechanisms by the statistical and computational processing of biological data and information. Dr. Xiaole Shirley Liu, from
Harvard University
will give five days' lectures. The course will cover important topics in bioinformatics, including sequence analysis (Days 1 & 5) and microarray analysis (Days 2, 3, & 4). Three afternoon lab practice sessions will give students hands on experience in these analysis problems.
Pre-requisites:
- Basic knowledge in molecular biology (central dogma and cloning)
- basic concepts in statistics (undergraduate level probability and statistical inference)
- basic skills in computer science (algorithms and data structure, knowing programming preferable)
Course structure:
Five lectures: three hours each with two 10-min breaks
Three lab practice sessions: two hours each with flexible structure
Teaching language: Chinese with English terminologies
